Digital Posted by on 2002-02-23 10:38:25.639342+11
from the Foveon dept.
Full Story here. "The Foveon X3 is the world's first color image sensor that captures red, green and blue light at each pixel, resulting in brilliantly sharper images, enhanced color, and freedom from unwanted "color rainbow" artifacts common in photographs from today's digital cameras."

Now where are the cameras?

It would be great to see this technology on cameras made by real companies like Nikon or Canon or Minolta, instead of on a Sigma. Yet, I don't think they are far behind - they can't be, in this race. Go guys!
Yep..!

As a film user I am pleased to bits with my 1V, but if I where to shoot digital, I am sure I would want Canon to get in to the Foveon X3 bed:-) This all assumes the technology has no new problems of its own, it sound brilliant on paper so far

X3 is a brilliant idea superbly executed. Too bad the same can't be said of the Sigma camera that houses this gem. Alright, perhaps I'm being a tad harsh, but I am disappointed that this breakthrough technology can't be shown in the best possible light. Canon, Nikon, where are you?

I don't know, innovations from the little guys keep the big guys honest and on their toes. I'm sure if the Foveon chip does meet expectations you will eventually see it in other cameras. On the other hand it has the possibility of making Sigma up the quality in its products so it can become a major player in the big leagues.
